about Jackie
In 2006 I spent a week traveling the Pacific Northwest with my two sisters. Shopping is always on the itinerary and while browsing one day I came upon an unusual piece of jewelry which I learned was crocheted. The colorful beads were interlocked together and the piece had a rope-like quality which fascinated me.
Upon returning home, I set out to teach myself the technique. I’d been a weaver and also knew how to crochet and knit but incorporating beads into the mix was foreign to me. Although it took a while to wrap my head around it, once I got it, I was hooked!
My favorite beads to incorporate into my designs may include precious metals, Swarovski pearls and crystals, precious and semi-precious stones, Czech glass daggers and other assorted glass beads.
After carefully choosing the beads I’ll use to create my design, I string them in a sequence onto a nylon cord, and then crochet in the round. The result is a hollow tube or “rope” which is flexible and durable.
My goal is to create jewelry which will endure in both style and function. Pieces can be elegant and sophisticated or colorful with a touch of whimsy, depending on the design and choice of beads.
If you’re interested in seeing my work in person, I encourage you to visit the Clever Hand Gallery in Wellesley, MA, a wonderful artisan run cooperative gallery.
